 About Hortus Tulipus

At present, Hortus Tulipus is the personal effort of C. Edward Wall, founder and present curator of its collection. The initial intent is to collect, grow, document and photograph the tulips during various stages of their growth and flowering cycles, and to share this information with all other persons interested in old tulips.

The ultimate object is to help preserve these special varieties, and contribute to the establishment of a preservation "ark" for old and rare tulip cultivars in Southeast Michigan.

About the Name

A "hortus" is an urban garden. In this case, the urban garden is devoted to tulips and is located in the United States, complementing the role of Hortus Bulborum in The Netherlands. The United States location is indicated by the "us" at the end of "tulip".
